DRILLING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

Program Introduction

The Drilling Technology Program aims to train qualified personnel equipped with scientific knowledge and technical skills for the sector, in line with the increasing geothermal energy, mining, groundwater, and oil exploration activities in Turkey. The program, taught in Turkish, requires students to successfully complete all courses and mandatory internships to graduate. Graduates receive the title of "Drilling Technology Technician." The training is hands-on, allowing students to gain field experience and specialize in areas such as oil, geothermal, mining, and ground exploration drilling.

Mission

The mission of the Drilling Technology Program is to train qualified technicians who possess the technical knowledge and skills to participate in the exploration and extraction of underground resources, are committed to ethical values, are environmentally conscious, and remain abreast of sectoral developments. The program aims to equip students with a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring they are prepared for the industry.

Vision

The program's vision is to be a nationally and internationally recognized and preferred training program in drilling technologies, with strong, continuously developing, and innovative collaborations across sectors. With an educational approach that follows and implements technological advancements, it aims to make its graduates highly sought-after professionals.

Program Admission Requirements

Students wishing to enroll in the Drilling Technology Program must have achieved a sufficient score on the TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) as part of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) administered by ÖSYM. Candidates who achieve the required score are accepted into the program through central placement based on their preferences.

Title Obtained

Graduates of the program are awarded the title of "Drilling Technician." With this title, graduates can work in drilling operations and provide technical support in public and private sector organizations.

Language and Duration of Education

The medium of instruction in the Drilling Technology Program is Turkish. The program lasts two years (four semesters) and is implemented through formal education. In addition to theoretical courses, the program also includes practical laboratory work and internships

Courses Offered

The courses offered in the Drilling Technology program are designed to help students gain competence in underground resource exploration, the use of drilling rigs, and geotechnical applications. The program primarily covers technical courses such as geology, geophysics, mineral science, drilling equipment and methods, geotechnical measurement techniques, drilling fluids and mud engineering, drilling safety, map reading, and land surveying. Additionally, complementary courses such as professional ethics, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, and technical reporting provide students with the general skills they will need for field work. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the program also provides professional experience through practical laboratory work, workshops, and a mandatory internship.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate, students must successfully complete all courses in the program, earn at least 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits, and successfully complete their mandatory internship. They are also required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00.

Employment Opportunities

Drilling Technicians can work in institutions and organizations such as the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA), the State Hydraulic Works (DSI), TPAO (Turkish Petroleum Corporation), private mining and oil companies, and geotechnical and geophysical firms. They can also work in geothermal energy, water drilling, and underground structures.

Departments Eligible for Application with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS)

Graduates of the Drilling Technology Program can continue their education in four-year undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). The main departments they can apply to are:

·       Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering
